Try the World: Portugal

Good afternoon everyone!   Today we received our Try the World box from Portugal.   We haven't gone through our Thailand box yet!   On to the products!

Here is the Portugal product guide book.

Pumpkin jam with hazelnuts.   I usually think of pumpkin as a fall product.   I think the hazelnuts will add a complex flavor.

Codfish in olive oil.   I hope these will be good.   I didn't care for the pickled mussels I got in a previous box.

More olive oil!  This is the third bottle we've received since subscribing.   I haven't finished the first bottle yet.

Sea salt and lemon rub for meat.   I wonder if I can use this for slow cooking.

Our dried fruit item is apple rings.  These will be nice while watching TV.

I love caramelized onions.   I wonder what I can use these in.  I'll have to check the guide.

Hot sauce.   I'm a little nervous about this one.

Lastly, lemon cookies for dessert.

District

Last night was the preview for upcoming season at Playhouse Square.   It's a day early before the public release tonight.  Steve and I took the opportunity to eat at the District.  We ordred the Wine and Dine set menu.  For fifty dollars, you get two entrees, two starters, and a bottle of wine.   It's a lovely deal.   Pictured above is the Herbed Barramundi with the spinach rissotto.  It was delicious!   It had a lightly cripsy surface.

Steve ordered the special, some sort of lamb with couscous.   Very nicely tender.

Each of us had a different soup.   I had the creamy ginger carrot while Steve had the tomato and rice.

The carrot soup was lightly sweet.   Very good.

The tomato rice soup was much heartier.

After dinner, I decided to splurge on dessert.   We got the toffee ganache.   It was decadant and very filling.

I'd definitely go to this place again.   We also got to take the bottle of wine home with us!

Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play

Last Monday we got to see Mr. Burns: A Post Electric play at Cleveland Public Theatre.   That was fun.   I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised at the blend of drama and metatheater based around the Simpsons.

The premise: some kind of nuclear disaster has ruined the world and people are brought together culturally by remembering episodes of the Simpsons.  Particularly, the episode where the Simpsons become the Thompsons in order to escape Sideshow Bob in the witness protection program.

The show is in three acts.   Act one is shortly after things go sideways with society.   No one has electricity and people gather in camps defending their possessions with their guns.

The second act is 10 years later.   The Simpsons are now a set of plays performed by different drama troupes.  The dark edge of survival in a post-apocalyptic society persists.

The last act is 75 years into the future and the Simpsons have turned into a kabuki-esque drama.    It was amazing to watch.   I think I liked the final act best.
