Lala Custom Cake

A new cake shop opened the other week and I finally got a chance to go.   Lala Custom Cake is located near Fear's Confections and Ice Cream Joy.  It's quite the dessert corner now.   I've missed having a cupcake shop nearby.

These are the right size.   They have lovely buttercream frosting and the cake is a bit on the dense size.  You know you are getting a treat just from the small size and heavy mouth feel.  I liked these.

Top row: Cookie dough, lime, chocolate mocha
Bottom row: Chocolate salted caramel

Definitely worth a stop in.

Travel Adventure Birthday Cupcakes

We went to Main Street Cupcakes original location yesterday.  The closed their other branches, so this one is the only one left.  It was worth the trip.  Pictured above from left to right:
Back row: Birthday cake, Hudson Apple Pie, Toffee Coffee
Front row: Chocolate Raspberry and Blueberry Cheesecake

This bakery has given me really high standards for cupcakes.  Once you try them, everything else is sort of meh.  They have 200 plus different flavors on a rotating menu, plus you can order boozy adult cupcakes for special occassions.

Anniversary Dinner: Voodoo Tuna

Tonight we went out to Voodoo Tuna to celebrate our anniversary.   It's wonderful to have a sushi place so nearby.  Pictured above are salmon sashimi and banana unagi rolls (our favorite roll from this place).
We also got the white tuna sashimi, dragon roll, and Cajun bacon rolls.
Here is a closer view of the white tuna.
They gave us some free Asian pear cheesecake to celebrate!   The fruit was warm and drizzled with caramel sauce.
Since we last visited, Voodoo Tuna has completed the murals on their wall.  The art is beautiful and a tad bit quirky.
I really like this place.   It's too bad they aren't open on Sundays.   Weeknights are fairly quiet and it's easy to get a table right away.

Jack Frost Donuts

I stopped by Jack Frost Donuts after I got a lovely picture of them from Steve, who happened to try them at work.  These are huge with tons of icing on top.   I got all of the yeast raised type.

Top row left to right: Peanut butter chocolate with nuts, apple, maple frosted
Bottom row: Trix, Cookies and Cream, Pineapple

These were quite tasty.   They are moving into their new building on Valentine's Day.   Worth the visit.

The Quest for Birthday Cupcakes

Hi everyone!   It's been a while since I last had Main Street Cupcakes.  Today, I made a special trip out to finally use my birthday coupon and last of my gift certificate I'd been saving.   I really miss their Rocky River location.  It was nice to see another location.

Notice the lovely Halloween decorations.   Always so delightfully festive!

Top row, left to right:  English Toffee Cheesecake, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Chocolate Oreo Cheesecake (flavor of the month)
Bottom row, left to right:  Pumpkin Spice, Half Baked, and Wedding Day White.

Of course, a birthday cupcake run means getting the citrus Birthday Cupcake flavor!

If you're on the east side of town, I recommend visiting.  No parking meters, but there is a two hour maximum in front of the shop.

Fear's Confections: Brownies and Peanut Butter Sponge Candy

I stopped in to Fear's Confections today because I wanted chocolate.  Mmm.   Pictured above are the new peanut butter sponge candy and a biscoff cookie coated with chocolate and caramel.

I got three brownies.  For Steve, who loves coffee, I got the Graveyard Shift flavor.  It has espresso and almonds.   The green one is new to me, Pistachio!   I managed to get a corner piece too!  Yum!   The After School Snack (PB&J blondie) is for later.

Looks so great on a plate!   For those of you outside of Cleveland, Fear's Confections does online order fulfillment.  Check out the geek chocolates!   I've had the Doctor Who set several times.

Peace, Love, & Little Donuts

I stopped in to Peace, Love, & Little Donuts to check it out.   I was impressed by the flavor selection.   Glad that I stopped in.  The ones pictured above are the Funkadelic type with the most creative flavors.

Top row: Maple Bacon, Blueberry French Toast, Cereal,Raspberry Truffle
Middle row: Samoa, Hopscotch, Chocolate Pretzel, Strawberry Shortcake
Bottom row: Cookies and Cream, Orange Creamsicle, Dirty Worm, Chocolate Covered Cherry
The decoration is pretty fun too.

Definitely going back soon.

Coquette Patisserie

Madge, Steve, and I went out to have tea yesterday at Coquette Patisserie.  That was really fun!  We had visited before for their macarons, but we really wanted to try their tea.   For nineteen dollars per person, you got all kinds of things to sample as well as a pot of tea each.

This is March's menu.   I really enjoyed everything, but I was most surprised by the raspberry cream puff.  It was filled with this decadently creamy pink filling!   I'm really glad that I had it last.

The teas we had were lavender peppermint herbal, English breakfast, and an orange blossom green tea.

Here is a closeup of the tray.   From left to right we have the ham sandwich, zucchini quiche, French vanilla macaron, chocolate triomphe, and finally the raspberry creme puff.

The brioche was lovely too.   Those are the blueberry jam, orange cinnamon butter, and pear ginger jam.

As you can see, the presentation is wonderful!

Madge and I both got larger quiches afterwards.
This one is ham with gouda.

And this one has shiitake mushrooms.

We also got more macarons because I love pistachio flavored stuff.  These were just perfectly salty sweet.

Tea is only on Sundays.  You should definitely go!

Today was the last day for Main Street Cupcakes in Rocky River.   Their other locations are in Hudson and Chagrin Falls.   I'm really going to miss them being just around the corner.  There is always online delivery though.

We started off planning to order four, but went with a half dozen instead.
Top row: Caramel Apple, Coconut Cream

A Cookie & A Cupcake

It was such a pretty, sunny day today that we stopped by A Cookie & A Cupcake.

Top row: Strawberry and Apple
Bottom row: Salted Caramel and Nutella

The apple one was basically covered in apple pie filling and the core had cinnamon.  The strawberry one was filled with vanilla custard with strawberry pieces.

The salted caramel had salt sprinkles on top.  It wasn't overly salty.   The nutella was today's special flavor.

The frosting is very light and more similar to whipped cream than buttercream.  It is a nice little shop and definitely worth a visit.  Next time we're going to order their sampler tray of all their flavors.

December Holiday Cupcakes

I stopped by Main Street Cupcakes today and got a couple of flavors.   The red one on the left is December's Flavor of the Month, Ruby Slipper.   It's red velvet cake with champagne buttercream frosting.  The yellow one is Lemon with a Twist, a lemon one with a generous dollop of raspberry filling in the center.   Both were extremely yummy.

They also gave me a mini hot chocolate cupcake for free!   See the tiny marshmallows?

Normally, Main Street has 16 to 20 flavors on a daily basis.  Today, I counted 25, 26 if you count the mini hot chocolate ones.
